Development of Sorghum Genotypes for Improved Yield and Resistance to Grain Mold Using Population Breeding Approach

The infection caused by grain mold in rainy season grown sorghum deteriorates the physical and chemical quality of grain, which causes a reduction size, blackening, making them unfit for human consumption. Therefore, breeding resistance has become necessity. Pedigree been widely used across globe to tackle problem mold. In present study, population approach was employed develop genotypes resistant complex genotype × environment interactions (GEIs) make task identifying stable mold-resistant lines with good yield (GY) challenging. this performance 33 derivatives selected from four-location evaluation 150 2017 turn evaluated over four locations during 2018. Genotype plus genotype-by-environment interaction (GGE) biplot analysis analyze significant GEI observed GY, resistance, all other associated traits. For location explained higher proportion variation (51.7%) while (G) (L) contributed 21.9% 11.2% total variation. G L (30.7%). A graphical helped promising GY resistance. Among test locations, Dharwad an ideal both were partitioned into three clusters two through “which-won-where” study. Best each these selected. specific cluster is suggested. Genotype-by-trait biplots indicated that influenced flowering time, 100-grain weight (HGW), plant height (PH), whereas glume coverage PH.
